Philosophy
Fitting a person to a bicycle is like selecting clothing that fits properly. And, just like ill-fitting clothing, an improper fit to a bicycle causes discomfort and looks silly. Plus the more one rides a bicycle that doesn't fit properly, the more problems can develop. Comments like "My back hurts", "I can't bend over like that", "My hands fall asleep" are all comments that relate to problems caused by improper fit on a bicycle. An improper bike fit is what many times destroys a person's enjoyment of cycling and, for the serious racer, can result in debilitating injury.
Tim Gresh, the founder of Velo Souplesse Professional Bike Fitting, is an expert in creating comfort and efficiency for anyone who rides a bike.
He has learned that, "The only right solution is the one that works", the words of Steve Hogg, world renowned bike fitter from Sydney, Australia and one of the most influential of the many people Tim spent time working with to solve his own aches and pains on the bike. Steve's advice forms the underlying principles that he found to be true over the time he spent ridding himself of ailments ranging from chronic lower back pain, to knee tendonitis, to hand pain and foot numbness. There are many 'right' ways to go about finding an ideal body position on the bike, but ultimately everyone is different and the right way is the one that gives the individual a POSITIVE difference.
Tim started bike fitting after he was able to overcome his own discomforts and fit issues, most notably lower back pain that plagued him since he began cycling at age 14. The issues Tim had on the bike were very complex and required him to slowly gather the pieces of the puzzle to this very frustrating and nagging issue. Once a vast array of opinions, mechanical adjustments and research was done, Tim put the puzzle together. A huge accomplishment in Tim's career came at age 21, when he was able to ride pain free for the first time in 7-years. He decided to utilize the knowledge he gained in his research to help other cyclists discover the benefits of a proper bike fit. Through his own years of trial and error, extensive research with physiologists, understudy with Steve Hogg and hundreds of clients who have come to him for personal bike fits, Tim has become one of the nation's most sought after bike fit experts.
Tim aims to help people find solutions to their problems and assess them accordingly. Tim works to get his clients more functionally symmetrical on the bike, taking into consideration the rider's physique, flexibility and the interplay of the three body contact points with the bicycle. More functional symmetry on the bike equals increased comfort and decreased chance of injuries, resulting in much more enjoyable riding and increased performance, from casual recreational riding to full-on training and competition
